Service Tips

Macquarie Garage Doors recommends that every garage door should be at a minimum serviced by our experienced technicians every 2 years based on an average usage rate of 12-16 operations per day. Should you use your garage door more as a front door and access into the house where this daily operation is exceeded it would be recommended to have your garage door service completed by our experienced technician every 12 months.

During this period however there are a few minor service tips to help your garage door during this time keep running as best as possible.

Panel Door Service Tips -

  • Door Lubrication - Make sure approximately every couple of months you use a silicon spray on all hinges, wheels and along the garage door opener rail
  • Garage Door Opener Auto Reverse Safety Test - Place a block of timber approx 45mm thick flat on the ground underneath where the panel door would close to. Stand back away from the panel door and operate it via remote. The panel door should get to the block of timber and auto reverse within 0.75 seconds. Should the door not auto reverse in this time you will need our experienced technician to complete panel door service.
  • Tension Test -  If your panel door is manually operated all the time with no garage door opener installed simply manually operate the door to approximately halfway up. If door tension is correct the door should sit in this position by itself without falling down to the ground. Should it fall to the ground or spring up open you will need to arrange our technician to service this door.
  • Lifting Cables -  Each panel door has lifting cables. These are steel cables that run from the bottom of the door up the outside of the trackwork on the sides. These cables commonly snap due to the high tension they are under and the heavy workload that they endure. Check for fraying of this cable and should you see any fraying it is best to have the cable instantly replaced to save the cable snapping and you facing downtime.
  • Spring Care -  It is recommended to use a spray adheasive grease to lubricate the panel door springs. This is better than thick grease as in the warmer months of the year the grease melts down and can drip onto cars and belongings. DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE SPRING TENSION.
