In late 2019, Rayfield Constructions engaged us to provide them with a garage door that would be stylish, modern and could withstand a high exposure to sea salt. After viewing the plans, we recommended our Danmar Alipanel Door. This door comes with an aluminium frame which is powdercoated black. We also included an upgrade to Danmar’s B.I.T (Built In Truss) frame. This meant that we could remove the standard galvanised strut and have a fully aluminium frame and truss, given the high exposure to sea salt.
The front of the door is an aluminium composite sheet panel which is a very popular, lightweight and modern type of cladding. Whilst this is manufactured in a standard colour range, the customer wanted the door colour to match the surrounding façade in Resene Black/White colour. We were able to achieve this by 2 Pak Painting the Aluminium Composite sheeting.
The next stage was the design of the black negative rebates between the composite sheet cladding. The standard Alipanel door designs are ‘even halves’, ‘even thirds’ or ‘even quarters’. Although there are many other design configurations to choose from, the customer opted for ‘even halves’ to keep the door design simple.
Finally, we recommended fitting Cleverseal Brush Kits to the door to ensure that, when closed, the gaps around the top and sides of the door are sealed. This helps to minimise slat drafts coming into the garage and further protects the inside of the door.
With our consultation throughout the product we were able to help Rayfield and their customer achieve the desired result of a stylish, modern garage door which, given the location, would withstand environmental impacts.
This home also won the 2020 House of the Year (for $1.5 million and over) in the Hunter Master Builder Awards.
