Roller Door Service Tips
Macquarie Garage Doors highly recommends all Roller Doors be serviced every 18-24 months, based on your average usage rate. The service includes ensuring the door tension is correct, the door is aligned properly, the motor settings are all correct, the door parts are fully lubricated, and the safety reversal system is working as per Australian Standard.
In between services, there are a few minor things you can do to ensure smooth operation and longevity of your door.
Door Lubrication
Every couple of months, use a silicone spray on the roller door trackwork. Spray each track up and down once as this helps create extra friction on the roller door nylon felt. Do not use grease in the guides as this gets messy and also attracts dirt into the tracks.
Garage Door Opener Auto-Reverse Safety Test
Place a block of timber approx 45mm thick flat on the ground underneath where the door would close. Stand back away from the roller door and operate it via remote. The roller door should get to the block of timber and auto-reverse within 0.75 seconds. Should the door not auto-reverse in this time you will need one of our experienced technicians to complete a roller door service.
Tension Test
If your roller door is manually operated all the time with no automatic garage door opener installed, simply manually operate the door to approximately halfway up. If the roller door tension is correct the roller door should sit in this position by itself without falling down. Should it fall to the ground or spring up open you will need to arrange a technician to service this roller door.
Spring Care
We recommended using a spray adhesive grease to lubricate the roller door springs. This is better than thick grease as in the warmer months of the year the grease melts down and can drip onto cars and belongings.
DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT TO ADJUST THE SPRING TENSION.
